You will need to pay for your driving test when you book it. It costs £62.00 to take your driving test on a weekday, or £75.00 if you want to book it on an evening, weekend or bank holiday.

You have to pay the full amount again if you do not pass your test and want to book another one.

You will need to liaise with your driving instructor throughout your lessons and they will advise you when they think you are ready to book your driving test.

It could take 2 weeks or more to get a date for your practical test, so in the meantime, you’re driving instructor should be preparing you ready for the big day. 

On the day of your test you will need to provide your provisional driving license, your theory test certificate if you have it and a car – most pupils will use the car that they have been practising in which usually is their driving instructor’s, but you are allowed to use your own car if it meets the correct guidelines. 

Your driving instructor will help you to prepare for your driving test, which will include mock tests; mock tests are a good way to give you an insight into what you’ll be doing on your test and help you calm your nerves.
